18-55 and 50-200 or Sigma 18-125

Hi, I am new to this group. Hello from Encino, California.
I shoot 90%of my photos with my grandchildren as models. I thought the 18-55 lens was a little soft?? Is the sigm a18-125 much better? It will be almost $125 more than the k100d and the 2 kit lenses?? Thank you for any comments.

Have you considered the Tamron 18-250? I know its a bit more expensive than either the sigma and the pentax but it has better reviews that the other 2.

Hi,
having the DS and K100D and
18-55 kit and 18-125 Sigma:
The lenses are nearly ssame sharpness-wise.
The 18-55 focussing more silently with the manual-focus-option.

The Sigma simply with a longer reach as a walk-around-lens.
As for your needs:
if the 18-55 isn't long enough and you want to take pics from kids it's much faster with a 18-125 than changing lenses.....

The Sigma 18-125 is quite sharp in the 50-100mm-range!
Only the extreme last mm on the long end lacking a bit.
In the 18-55mm-range both lenses perform nearly identically.

18-125 would have been my choice (actually the 18-250 would be even better1) if I could have afforded it!! I miss the zoom a LOT with the 18-55!!
