WOW!

Amazing photos man.
Thanks! Africa is an amazing place to be...
Great place to take photo's, and not just with a 60-250mm

I had both. Sold the 50-135mm recently as I never used it, fantastic IQ but the focus speed was just so painfully slow.
There is a lot of complaining on the DA* focus speed.
I decided to find out for myself how bad it is and did some playing this afternoon with my DA*60-250mm and my DA55-300mm which has a lot of good press.

These tests has not been very scientific.
The first was indoor (my bookshelf in my study) both lenses at short and long range.
First starting to focus from close to far, then from far to close.
The Ev for my room then was: 5.

I repeated the same procedure pointing the camera outside.
The Ev value here was: 9.

My conclusion is that the DA*60-250mm focuses more or less as fast as the DA55-300mm, except is is much more reliable.
The 55-300mm sometimes stops focusing for no obvious reason...

Look at the video:

The DA*16-50mm however focuses a lot faster than the DA*60-250mm.
I did test that earlier.
See this video:

In the end my conclusion is that it is not all that bad, although one might expect a faster focus time from an expensive SDM lens.

It was the 50-135mm I said was slow .. not the 16-50mm or the 60-250mm.

The 16-50mm, 60-250mm, 200mm and 300mm are reasonable .. the 50-135mm is slow and the 55mm positively crawls.

thank you for the test. This video show that the advantages of the 60-250 over 55-300 is the silent af.

Although I haven't (directly) tested them side-by-side, having used both my 50-135 and 60-250 in smiilar shooting situations I would certainly agree that the 60-250 focuses much quicker and that the 50-135 is a bit on the slow side.

I'm sorry, misunderstood.

Besides silence, the 60-250mm's IQ is far better, it is a lot sharper at the long end.
And of course there is weather and dust sealing.

Let's get back to the pictures again, that's what it is all about right?

Who said a K-7 does not focus in low light? With a 60-250mm it does!

Or in NO light??:

Bokeh??:

Details??:

Very nice shots Bymy - I've just bought the 55-300 but I'm now aching to upgrade it already, and there's a used 60-250 going for $600 downtown too. Is it worth the upgrade ?

I have both, bought both lenses, the same day, in one deal.
A severe case of LBA? I guess so!

First I went to the shop with my camera and made a large number of test shots with both lenses outside the shop.
Did a lot of pixel peeping at home, my 60-250 is clearly the winner over my 55-300.
Working with the 1.7AF TC is pretty much ok with the 60-250, with the 55-300 not.

I bought the 55-300 as well for long hiking trips, just because of its size and weigth.
So, should you be up for an upgrade? I don't know, in my case you'd be in for an extra lens

- Bert

Just a few more photo's, I can't stop, such a great lens!

Unless I'm really out of touch with exchange rates, that sounds like a killer deal to me!

Thanks Bymy and Farfisa - guess I'll be telling the wife that it's an(other) unmissable deal !

Bymy - that leopard shot is absolutely outstanding (how close were you) ?

However the bokeh from the dragonfly looks very nervous - what's going on there ?

Here are a couple of select shots from the Single in September challenge, where I chose to use the 60-250 for a shot each day in September. I must add that I am awe struck by the pictures you guys have posted in this thread

Bumping it up.
Performs well, even under adverse shooting conditions.
This was into the sun, just a slight amount of PF.
