Thats a shame, I've used my 50-135 to shoot sports with K-7 and got awesome results.

seems you have a great picture with this lens ..can i see the example?

There is a lot of complaining on the DA* focus speed.
I decided to find out for myself how bad it is and did some playing this afternoon with my DA*60-250mm and my DA55-300mm which has a lot of good press.

These tests has not been very scientific.
The first was indoor (my bookshelf in my study) both lenses at short and long range.
First starting to focus from close to far, then from far to close.
The Ev for my room then was: 5.

I repeated the same procedure pointing the camera outside.
The Ev value here was: 9.

My conclusion is that the DA*60-250mm focuses more or less as fast as the DA55-300mm, except is is much more reliable.
The 55-300mm sometimes stops focusing for no obvious reason...

The DA*16-50mm however focuses a lot faster than the DA*60-250mm.
I did test that earlier.

In the end my conclusion is that it is not all that bad, although one might expect a faster focus time from an expensive SDM lens.

I shoot both(55-300 and 60-250) and concur, possibly the * having to move more mass has something to do with the speed?.

That would be interesting to see, pushing the ISO while getting away with f4 lens indoors.

I recieved my K5 yesterday!!

This is not exactly what you'd like to see, but a start...
These photos were taken trough the glass of the door of my study.
We had a storm and rain here today, the light outside was very dim.

The photo's were taken with a DA* 60-250mm + AFA 1.7x TC.
The TC brings the f4 down to f 6.7

EXIF's:
ISO 40,000!!!
1/125s (handheld..., thank you SR)
425mm (250mm x 1.7)
f 6.7

I did lightroom noise reduction (60% NR + 60%detail) on the pictures:
