Unfortunately, I haven't had a chance to use one myself. But I've read all the reviews and seen images from it posted here and I've been salivating since.

I searched and searched and couldn't find one for sale, but along the way I found a lot of high praise for this K 200mm.

I will chime in having shot quite a bit of wildlife. As a Canon shooter, I chose to go with a 400 prime, Sigma 70-200 f/2.8 combo for the reasons discussed above. Wildlife (at least in my area) are general in low-light areas or are best shot in the early morning and evening. I like having that 2.8 option for those low light times. Just means that I have to get quite a bit closer.

I don't know how good your camera body is at low-light focusing, but if it struggles than you'll probably be stuck with MF anyway. My 40D (which is probably better than any of the CURRENT pentax bodies with low-light AF) does pretty well with all my lenses. I'll be the first to admit that my MF skills are mediocre at best and I usually rely on autofocus. If you are set on shooting the 200mm focal length, than a prime is always going to win whatever you choose. FWIW, I shoot with a Sigma 70-200 and have found it to be an excellent lens. Great build, smartly designed tripod collar and sharp in the center at f/2.8, excellent stopped down. The Tamron 70-200 is a lot slower to focus but is actually better optically, at least on Canon mount.

Hey Phil,

Glad I got mine when I did because the K 200/2.5 is getting pricey.

Pentax SMC 200/2.5...5119028...MINT on (item 270280329613 end time 16-Oct-10 18:34:43 EDT)

I know this seller usually prices things quite high but this seems a bit steep. Then again the K 200/2.5 is a damn fine lens.

That Tokina was surprising to see. Is that a relatively new lens?

Good reviews on this site, all prettry recent, but not much talk here or anywhere I've seen for that matter.
