Agreed!

This is gem of a lens for landscapes and groups, and also night shots as evident in the above photos. Colors and contrast remind me of DA40mmf2.8 Ltd lens!

I made the mistake of selling my first copy when I got a 16-50 but I am holding on my to my second copy.

I actually compared the DA 40mm with the DA 16-45mm @ 40mm, and the output looked remarkably similar--just a tiny bit sharper in the images produced by the DA 40mm--not enough for me to justify keeping the ltd., given the versatility of the zoom. Also, the 16-45mm's pics were a tad warmer, but once I adjusted the WB in PP, I could not easily see the difference on my 22" monitor without pixelpeeping.

I also have a copy of this lens, and have few things to share:

- Very impressive optically, nice contrast and sharpness;
- Cheap body and feel, but great as a cheap beater: you can bring it anywhere;
- AF problems at 16mm. Out of my entire Pentax collection of lenses, this is the ONLY lens I have issues autofocusing... I know how to get away with it, i basically zoom all the way, AF lock, and reframe at wide-angle. But it is a PIA whenever I hand the camera to someone and they can't shoot because focus wont lock.

Thought MANY times about selling this lens and getting the 16-50 (which I had rented for a while) but it is such a nice piece of glass (optically) and it is so affordable, i always talk myself out of it.

BTW, anyone else facing AF issues with the lens? I have yet to confirm, but i think it happens with all my bodies [K10D, Kx, K100D].

Having trouble linking to Flcikr.. I think they've changed (a while ago) the way it works but this is the first time i am trying it. I went to "share this" and grabbed the link, but what do I type in the forums?

Thanks

That's why I prefer to insert flickr links with 'insertimage' and 'wrap [IMGWIDE]'--especially the latter.
Hi mate,

Could you clarify the proper way to link Flickr images into the forums?

Not sure what insertimage and imgwide are.

I had to return a copy of 16-45mm due to lack of AF between 16mm and about 24mm.

About linking flickr pics: 1) open the pic in flickr ("View all sizes" > large size); 2) right click on the pic: select "copy image location"; and EITHER 3) use 'insert image', which opens a space where you paste the copied image location, or 3*) paste the image URL in the body of your post, then select it and use "Wrap [IMAGEWIDE] around selected text".

Both "insert image" and "Wrap [IMAGEWIDE] around selected text" are available in the advanced mode of the post window. Let me know if you need more help.

I have no AF issues with the 16-45mm. I did have them with the kit lens (18-55) but I've sent it back and received a good one. And I also don't think that the build quality on the 16-45 is that bad. I'm the third owner of this lens and it's still flawless after some really heavy use.

I've also tried the 40ltd and I've noticed this one is consideraby better on night shots but a tad worse under daylight, where the 40ltd truly shines IMHO.

in flikr, I do the "select all sizes" then just "copy" the pic and "paste" to the box here... is that not as good?

No. Follow the instructions above. You need to copy/paste the image location, not the pic itself; then use one of the two mentioned functions.

No AF issues here, with K100DS, K20D, K-x.

Does this lens come in a metal or plastic body?
