Rear lens caps for all K-mount lenses the same?

I'm looking to buy an SMC Pentax-A 50mm f1.7 prime, and some come with front and rear lens caps, but I see one without the rear cap. I have rear caps for my other lenses (the kit lenses including the 55-300mm, also the Pentax DA 18-250mm). Will they work on this prime?

Actually at the suggesting of a forum member I bought a cap set on eBay. There's an end cap and a cap for it (that evidently is a surrogate body), both say PK on the inside. I bought it here:

eBay - New & used electronics, cars, apparel, collectibles, sporting goods & more at low prices

Would that work for a rear cap for the 50mm prime?

I also see an auction for one with no front cap. I presume the front caps for my lenses would not fit this prime.

note that while all caps will fit, not all caps are equal.

Sigma rear caps for PK mount are also useable on sigma lenses, and need to be alligned with the correct dot to fit.

pentax caps can go on in any orientation and are much more convenient as a result

Agreed. The Tamron one that came with the 17-50 works the same way. It's a bit of a pain.

In my experience, Sigma caps are the 'worst', often hard to get on the lenses, and difficult to orientate correctly. Tamron caps are better, as there is a 'notch' that should be aligned with the red dot on the lens.

Although I doubt it would make much difference, note that older Pentax caps does not cover the electrical contacts on the lens mount.

Here's some generic PK caps that covers the contacts on the lens, I bought two sets of three so far and they are just like the original caps. 3pcs Pentax PK Lens Rear Cap FREE SHIPPING on eBay.ca (item 280555968122 end time 30-Sep-10 02:02:08 EDT)

Thanks,

Am I the only one who prefers the press on soft plastic caps. They stay on fine in my experience and are much easier to handle in a fast lens switch.

Soft caps wear out and become quite loose and tend to slip off at the slightest tug. I grabbed a lens sitting on my desk by the end cap which happened to be a soft cap and it slipped off when the lens was about an inch off the desk. That's when I ordered the first batch of hard bayonet lock lens caps.

Thanks,

Exactly....

My favorite is double lens cap - making lens changing much easier and safer (one cap per lens, not one cap for every two lenses as in the photo).

Even Penta-brand rear caps come in two flavors. Pentax-A and newer lenses shipped with a cap that has a wider flange that extends over the "A" contacts.

Front lens caps vary in size and usually have the filter thread size printed inside the cap e.g. the 18-55 kit lens has a 52mm filter/cap size. Limited lenses are a different matter as they have their own specialised caps - best not to loose them!

I agree they are easier to handle and stay on just fine in my experience. If they start getting loose from too much wear I would just toss it out. They are cheap and expendable. I set aside a few of my newer Genuine Pentax style rear bayonet caps to include with lenses for resale in the future. People seem to like original accessories and I'd rather not pay $12 for one.
