Pentax 50-135 Arrival

I just received the lens today.

1. The build quality is very very nice. Heard rumors that lens was made by Tokina. Quite frankly, if it looks as good as the shots that Ned Bunnel took with his, I'll be happy no matter who made it....especially at $999 US.

2. Took a few shots with it and wasnt entirely satisfied....then upgraded firmware in the K10D and was floored by the LACK of noise from the motor....nice! I don't know that I can say that the K10D focuses that much faster...but it SEEMS to be a LITTLE faster.....and the silence is nice!

3. I shall take some more photos over the weekend and post here. I hope they look good......

Shooter,

I have to say that the images produced from my DA* 50-135 2.8 are quite nice. I have been testing mine, looking for flaws, over the last three weeks and can't find any. Vignetting is not a problem and CA's seem to be very well controlled across the focal range.
No decentering issues have been encountered. Contrast is dead on, AF seems to focus well though I MF90% of the time. Images are sharp and beautifully saturated.

I have tried to get a head to head test with my 70-200 Sigma EX DG 2.8 but I simply have been too bogged down to finish it. If this lens can match the Sigma it will be a coup for Pentax.

Wish I could say that for the 16-50, which Pentax is kindly replacing (YES... this company does stands by it products and customers just like it has in the past). My particular copy of the 16-50 demonstrates some decentering at 16mm wide open to at least f8. CA and some PF were exacerbated with 16mm decentering. That said, the lens functions well as you climb the focal range. Tones, contrast and sharpness can be very impressive at times. There is no doubt that a good copy of this lens will be a very welcomed addition to anyones lens arsenal. Keep the faith!

A stellar performer in deed. You guys are continuously tempting me to buy this Da* 50-135 zoom with all these posts. Sigh ...

p.s. Small point - are the eyes a little oversharpened?

To Stephen, I am very keen to see your comparison of Sigma 70-200 f2.8 vs Da* 50-135 f2.8; I doubt any other lens could be as sharp as sigma 70-200 f2.8 ... Sometimes I felt Fa* 80-200 f2.8 may not be as sharp as sigma 70-200 f2.8

No, the eyes are not oversharpened.....

just kidding.....I just realized that as I was bringing it into photoshop, I did sharpen it in Camera RAW.

NEW! 50-135mm Walkaround shots fm Farmers Market

Here are some shots I took this morning at our local Famer's Market. All with the 50-135.

Converted to JPEG and resized in Adobe PS.

You be the judge on the quality of this lens.

Here's a shot with the 135 at f2.8 shot of a co-worker.

Just resized it in PS and exported as JPEG. Original was a RAW DNG file.

Thanks for the images!

It would be great to see some larger images as well (or 100% crops)...
