Hi, I am looking to get a good zoom telephoto lens for my k10d. It should be light enough for me to carry around and fit my budget of under $500. I aim to use it mainly for wildlife photography and occassional sports photography. I am thinking either a Sigma APO 70-300mm F4-5.6 DG Macro or Pentax SMC FA 80-320mm f4.5-5.6. I would appreciate anyone to give their opinion of either of these two lenses or any other lenses that I might have missed. Thanks.

I have the Sigma to which you refer and have been moderately happy with it. I find it hunts a bit on auto, and at 300mm it's a bit soft. But you get what you pay for, I suppose. Photodo gives it a rating of 4.42 out of 5.

The Pentax, on the other hand, gets a Photodo score of 4.00 - almost half a point less.

Here are some smallish very low resolution shots (all about 50k) taken with my Sigma and K10D:
