Tamron Rebate ....AF18-200 a good deal?

I was looking at Amazon earlier and ran across the Tamron AF 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 XR Di II LD Aspherical (IF) Macro Zoom Lens for $289.95 and its eligible for free shipping with Prime. There was a note about a rebate associated with it. Tamron is offering $100 back on the purchase through 10/10/10 for purchases from ADs in the US and Amazon qualifies. That makes the lens $189.95 out the door BNIB with warranty and Amazons great return policy.

So, is this a good, pretty good, or great deal for a walking around lens?

I have that lens and love it. Its a nice inexpensive walk around lens. If they're doing rebates again, I may have to go for another lens.

Thanks. They have several lenses on rebate right now. The PDF link is:

Is the Tamron AF 18-270mm f/3.5-6.3 Di II VC LD Aspherical IF Macro Zoom Lens even available in a Pentax mount? Amazon doesn't list one?

No affiliation with Tamron or Amazon.

Sometimes a lens is expensive at *any* price . I guess it all depends on your need and personal comfort level with the IQ. It does seem from various reports though that the 18-250 is much better than the 18-200.

I used the referenced 18-200 on a recent Caribbean cruise vacation and was very happy with it. The only other lens I carried with me on the trip was an FA 50mm 1.4 in anticipation of low light situations but I never had a reason to use it.
The reviews of the lens are accurate as far as IQ, softness at the long end and blurry edges, etc.
That being said I feel this is an acceptable one-lens solution for travel especially for the price.
Note that it is a bit heftier than the kit lenses that come with your k-x.
You can see some pictures from the trip using this lens on a K-m with no post processing on my flickr site:

I'm still a newbie so my apologies for the inexperienced effort.
If you blow them up you can see the flaws mentioned in the reviews, but from a non-critical point of view it is not too shabby for the price.

I'll try to attach one picture here so you can take a look. In the attached picture you can see some blurriness in the corners and purple fringing around high contrast areas. (I've seen worse PF from my FA 50mm 1.4 prime, though.)

Thanks. For some folks anything that isn't <f2 or a * model isn't worth the effort. Fortunately for me and my wallet I am not at that level. I appreciate your real world comments and the photos!

the saving is not as big as the summer one but i am looking at the 17-50 (A16- non VC version) which is not included in the summer rebate deal

Thanks, there certainly are more choices on that list. Some of the rebates are less on this one than on the one I linked to so it would be good to check both on some of the lenses ($100 on the 18-200 at Amazon vs. $60 on this one from Abe's).
