Sigma 50-150mm f2.8

What do you think of Sigma 50-150mm f2.8. This lens does not get discussed much here, may be overshadowed by DA*50-135mm or Tamron 70-200mm. How it compares with these two lenses?

Yusuf, I have this lens which I purchased for "action" portraits, photographing horses /eventing and railway photography. It is currently available at knockdown prices as it is being discontinued, at least in Pentax mount, (probably to be re-issued with OS)
I find it sharp, especially in mid range, even wide open. Contrast good too. HSM works well. The focal length range is great for my uses, 150 vs 135 of the Pentax version is useful. It is not overly large, fits well with my K20D and grip. buld quality is good, although not a WR lens. Obviously for sport, the extra reach of the Tamron would be useful, but my lens cost 50% of the 70-200, which was a deciding point for me. I have several photos from this lens on my galleries at another well known site - not sure if protocol here allows mwntion, but it is a Digital review site, Marc S knows it well!.

There are two previous threads about this lens, one of which I already posted my comments and these sample pics...

Great, thanks, how is performance wide open. I have tamron 70-300 and pretty good wide-open but limited to f4 in the range so will be buying this lens specially to be used at f2.8

I have this lens. It's my go-to lens for most events. I don't have any samples to put up right now unfortunately. My only complaint is that it seems to have a bit of trouble focusing in lower light conditions and it gets soft towards 150mm

I have played with this lens on Nikon, must say it is very very good lens. Bokeh is excellent and overall sharpness is really good (mtf figures shows that corners are better than Pentax 50-135). Focus is fast too, starting from 1 meter. Go and get it, you won't be disappointed, it's strangely overlooked lens by reviewers. New lens price on ebay starts from 349 pounds which is well bargain.

I think it's because of the Sigma Stigma. I can't blame people for not having such the confidence to buy Sigma lenses. past lenses were pretty much suck or mediocre, although there are very few exception. the EX ones were excellent but have some QC issues (hit or miss thing). the newer ones are either better or worse.

I'm not entirely saying that Sigma lenses are more of a chance to hit a bullseye, but rather there are certain Sigma lenses that have more quality concerns over the others.
