some additional differences between the Rokinon 85 and M85 is the color.

Rokinon color rendering is neutral while the M85 is striking vibrant.

In my experience, M85 color rendering is neutral & Rokinon is slightly washed-out.

Ha, ha, ha ...

Oh well, Yael, it seems clear what this means.
You have to buy them both and test them IED (in every detail).

Or how about you lent me one of each lens for me to make a decision?

Thanks for all the good info.
It looks like I'll wait for a M 85 until my patient runs away and I get a Rokinon which looks to be pretty good looking around the Internet. I would just love the size of the M 85.

How would you guys think of a Tamron 90mm SP AF (no Di version) instead?
I have a hard time finding a review of this one. Even here, it's either the Di or the one with the Adaptall.

Also is $270 too much for that lens?

you need to provide details or pictures for that one. otherwise you are keeping us in the dark as well.

it's the older Tamron 90. great lens, but I prefer the newer one and I think you can buy one used for the same price.

Did anyone ever order from this seller on eBay?
SMC PENTAX-M 85mm f2 LENS/LX/MX/K1000/USED/AS IS/$1 - eBay (item 230534195068 end time Oct-11-10 09:51:42 PDT)

He said the lens works good but when you look at the warranty, it says sold for parts only. I have contact the seller twice without any response. Is it worth it to give it a shot?

If I don't get that lens, I will go ahead and get a rokinon.

Henry is a reputable seller. although I'm kinda annoyed that the description is confusing or rather contradicts itself. it says working and fully functional then it says does not work. so which one is it?

I guess you have to phone them personally if I were you rather than have to wait an email reply.

I called this morning, but there are close and they will as well on Monday they are closed and the bids ends on Monday, so no luck for me.

On eBay, there is a silver Jupiter 9 made in 61 which should be of good quality and cheaper. Here is the thread: JUPITER-9 2 85 Lens Export screw M39 M42 for Zenit 5323 - eBay (item 320599187742 end time Nov-03-10 03:07:42 PDT).
That one looks pretty good and I would just need an adapter with infinite focus to go with it Pentax M42 42mm to PK K Mount Adapter Infinity focus - eBay (item 250638610334 end time Oct-21-10 11:54:03 PDT).

What do you think of that choice?

The only bad thing for me about the Rokinon it's its weight and size. Also I like close up pictures.

Another 85mm f/2 contender!

Well I'm waiting to try out this lens recommended by a friend - the Mitakon 85mm f/2
Cheap and good, works like an M lens and image quality is really good, though the build quality is a little rough. Said to better the Nikkor 85mm f/2 AiS!!!

I'm starting to have way to much choice and it's getting harder to choose from.

I have seen that lens on ebay before.

the J9 is great. I have that one as well. I prefer it also over the Rokinon because it is much easier to bring. although not the best nor of great sharpness, it is unique or has character.
