I saw that one, but I never heard of that brand so I don't want to spend that much and not be happy with it. Thanks anyway!

I just received my M85/2 today and it´s good. A little soft (as expected) wide open, much better at 2.8 (shame there´s no 2.4 position) and sharper still at F4.

So, if image quality is a wash between both lenses (assuming you get good copies of the Samyang and M-85), then you'll probably want to go with
1) the most modern lens with coatings
2) Auto-Aperture

After that the choice was clearer for me.

The trick is that then, you want Autofocus! (Seriously). LBA never stops.
I recommend you save up for FA77, FA*85 or the new Sigma, ultimately.

Thanks, I got the M85, but I haven't played with it too much since I'm doing some work in my house. As soon as the good weather comes back, I'll use it.

Just my 2 cents since i never tried the samyang/rokinon etc. I would heartily agree with Yeatzee (first page of the thread), the M85 has this special magic with rendering - to me it's the poorman's FA77: it has pixie dust as well.
However i always put a hood on it.

Thanks for the comments!
I need to get a hood, especially since I have 2 other lens using the same thread. So need one I could use for my 28,50 and 85.

YJD, I suggest you need three hoods.
For my m28/3.5 I use a original Pentax 50mm hood.
For my m50 I used a original Pentax 85-100mm hood.
For my m85/2.0 I use a original Pentax 135mm hood.
All providing sufficiënt protection and no dark corners.

I ordered a hood for my K 85. I was super excited because it was so rare. Well, when KEH sent it, it was the M 85 hood labeled as the K 85 hood. I sent it back. They may still have it.

This is the hood you want:

(taken with the M 85mm @ F/2)

I own 2 of the original M 85mm hoods but this works much better
