That was the final nail in my wallet, too. I wasn't going to. I shouldn't have. I can't take it with me. Just pulled the trigger at B&H and finally remembered to use the proper link.
Thanks guys for the comments! kyteflyer, you cry once when you buy it, and then smile every time you take a picture with it

I know I'll cry then I see my CC statement! And I'll cry again when I pull the trigger on the 77 as well.

Now that I have got the order in, though, I can't wait til it arrives, and I get my hot little hands on it.

Indeed another example of the X-factor in this fine lens - that 3D rendition and sharpness are just exquisite.

Nice shot

no other lens seems to be able to separate the subject from the background like the FA43 does

Crap. Now I just have to get one. It's hard to justify, since I'm already on bread and water, having bought the DA40 (a good lens, but a bit too slow and I find it really annoying to focus manually) and the FA 31 (I love that lens, but the price!! What was I thinking?) The 43 strikes me as ideal for portraits, as I can see it would hold up very well to cropping (as does the 31 -- I really don't see a need for a "portrait length" lens, given all the megapixels we have to work with. Going wider than optimal seems best to me, it leaves more options.

The FA31, with the additional hood I added to it, isn't as delightfully compact as the other limiteds, alas. I had a 77 for a while, but I returned it because the focusing ring was very loose. I also found, for some reason, that I got much better results from the 77 indoors, in mixed lighting, than outdoors in strong sunshine. It was also too long for what I was using it for -- whenever I try to do individual portraits, inevitably other people start jumping into the shot, and I don't have enough room. So I'm condemned to stay wide and crop as needed. Damn, I want the 43!

Thanks frogfish, thats a nice candid of your wife by the way
Thanks Ash! The 43 is such a fantastic lens in every aspect, its now my most used lens and rarely comes off the camera. I pulled it off today to put the da15 on ,and even though the 15 is another fantastic lens i pulled it back off and re-mounted the 43. Thats this lens's biggest downfall- once you use it you wont want to use anything else!
