A lady came to my rescue yesterday

I took a little trip with a bunch of other shooters yesterday—one other Pentax shooter. I thought I'd take a somewhat minimalist route and took along my little DA Limited case and 15mm, 21mm, 40mm and 70mm Limiteds. Not as convenient as a zoom, but fun anyway. I was using the 40mm, which looks even tinier when mounted on a camera with a battery grip. A fellow who was shooting with a Canon 1D and a large white lens came up and took a good hard look at the 40mm. He asked if that's all there was to it, and I explained that half of what he saw was the lens hood, which I removed and showed him just how small and tidy a lens can be. He made some remark about "where's the rest of your lens?" when a lady who knew him jumped in and replied "Oh Dave, are you still worried about size?"

Thanks ma'am.

Most beginners in photography, and most people knowing squat about optics, think that bigger is better. The lens I have that impresses my friends the most is my FA 100-300 silver. Try as I might, I cannot make them understand that the DA 21 LTD, FA 50 macro, or even Sigma 17-70 are better optically...

I got some good laughs recently when my K-x and da40 were being compared to a coworkers larger Nikon setup and I said "I don't have to compensate for anything."

That also why I drive a Subaru and not a Hummer...

Even if you stack all 4 of your lenses on top of each other, they probably still wouldn't amount to the length of his.

You're very right. I started to pull the case from my belt to show him just that, but by then his interest had waned.
