Planar on Pentax ?

Hi,
My daughter has been given a 1.4/50 Carl Zeiss Planar from a Contax camera.
Is there an adapter that would get it on to her K-x at all ?
Had a search and didn't turn up much.
cheers
Pete

Is it a ZF, ZK, ZE, or ZS? The ZK is K-mount and will fit without an adapter. The ZS is M42 and will fit with Pentax Adapter K. The ZF if Nikon F-mount and can fit with an optically corrected adapter that will act as a telephoto extender and reduce quality. The ZE is Canon EF mount and won't fit period.

Isn't that what Leitax adaptors are for?

Worth considering if you already have the lens.

If it's from a Contax camera, than it's not a ZE, ZK, ZF or ZS, but Steinback is right that it can possibly be adapted using the Leitax conversion kit.

Of course, it's not an adapter, really, it's surgery.

First thing to check is if the smallest aperture (highest number) on the aperture ring is written in green, and not white. That means it's an MM (as opposed to AE) version of the lens and can be converted.

Then have a look at the instructions on the page Steinback pointed you to and see for yourself if it's something you'd be interested in undertaking!

Good luck!

Yes I saw the 'green' point on the site and yes it has that so it is an MM lens...
and yes, the surgery does look like something I would not attempt
thanks

that lens goes for ~400 on ebay. if you cant get it to work on pentax you can easily sell it and buy an FA50 that autofocuses for less

Well Pete you could at least take some snaps handholding the lens on the camera. No kidding, you really can put Contax-Yashica-mount lenses
on a PK-mount in the 4 o'clock position and it'll sit right on the bayonet, handeld.

Why would one do this ?

Because the f/1.4 performance is something you have to see to believe. If you have started believing it would be just a matter of time
to find a tinkerer, order the Leitax mount, give lens + mount to the tinkerer and never look back .-)
Cheers, Georg (Planar-lobbyist)
