Sigma Lens Question

Hi everyone, I've been using my K110 (kit lens) for about 6 months and decided to upgrade to a medium telephoto lens. I bought the Tamron 18-200mm Di II lens and I decided it's a bit too much for my needs. I want to get a Sigma 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 or their 24-135mm f/2.8-4.5

Can anyone help me out as to which would be the better choice? I'm looking for a one lens solution for now. Thank you.

Hi Nhawk

Can you please clarify what you mean by "too much for your needs"?

Anyway, you are probably going to have trouble finding Sigma 18-135mm lens new as it seems to have been replaced with Sigma 18-200.

If you are keeping your kit lens (or if you don't need the wide end), then you can a look at:
Sigma 24-135
Tarom 24-135
Pentax FA 28-105
Pentax DA 50-200
Pentax F 70-210

Thanks for your quick reply, what I meant by 'too much for my needs' was that I realized that I will probably not use anything above 135mm.

Hi Nhawk,
The Sigma 18-125 was the 'kit' lens with my DS, which I bought back in early 2005 (I think.....maybe late'04).

As a 'walk about' lens for general photography this lens is very good, covers a useful range, it is lightweight, has proven to be robust and (in my humble opinion) takes a pretty good photo in good light. I have invested in a fast prime for any "low light" situations where the 18-125 will struggle. Bear in mind I DO NOT have any shake reduction, so that may give this lens an added dimension.
My solution was to use the monopod or tripod where light became an issue.

The only problem with adding a fast prime is that you come to appreciate how good they are and then start looking for more. How I would love the new DA* 50-135. :ugh:..this lens looks to be very, very good judging by the shots posted thus far....and its fast!!

I know the 18-125 is available here on the Gold Coast, I saw one last week and I reckon it was $399.
Cheers
Grant
