sigma 1.4x tele or 100-300mm f4 ????

Hi All !!

I have the 1st generation sigma 70-200mm f2.8 non macro lens... which i love....
My current quandary is if i add (buy) the proper sigma 1.4x teleconverter, will i be happy with the results as opposed to what i would achieve with the
sigma 100-300mm f4?
I really need the input of those who've used both, if there is a substantial difference in iq, i need to know.... relatively asap..... i have the chance to purchase a used 100-300mm f4 from a friend, but would love to save some $$$$$$$$$$$.
Regards, and thanks!!
Dave M.

p.s. i know that i can't use the new Sigma 1.4x DG EX APO Teleconverter, but the older version ex (non dg)
also... will other teleconverters work (or don't) with my lens, as a fully automatic lens that is....
need to know if they (others) fully enable the siggy lens, image quality results ???

since you already have the70-200mm f/2.8 zoom lens and are happy with it I say get the teleconverter, it will save you money and if you decide that you want a sigma 100-300mm f/4 you can sell both lens and teleconverter and get it. Of course there is a noticeable difference between a 70-200mm f/2.8 zoom and the 100-300mm f/4 there is no such thing as a free focal length. But whether that difference is meaningful to you and the level of image quality you are prepared to settle for.

I have the MKI 70-200mm f2.8 and 1.4x converter along with the 100-300mm f4.

If I am going out to take a variety of shots I take the 70-200mm and converter but if it is for the purpose of using 200-300mm then I take the 100-300mm f4.

The smaller Sigma is very good with the 1.4x but not in the same league as it's bigger brother @ 300mm.

I'd think some thanx to Mike.P for that informed reply would be in order. I'd wondered the same. Thanx Mike; glad you could say based on experience.
