KX lens mount/adapter for PENTAX ASAHI -M 1:2 50mm

Hello Everyone,

I recently bought a Pentax kx (twins lens kit) and have also just purchased an ASAHI M F/2.0 55mm lens off ebay... I'm new to photography and have no idea what mount or adapter to use on this sort of lens! It seems hard to find this sort of information on the web....

Does anyone have any experience with using older Asahi lenses on the kx ? I'd be interested in what I would need to buy (adapter/mount-wise) to use other older lenses as well (SMC, etc) .

Thanks for the help, much appreciated!

You don't need any mount to use that lens on your K-x. You will have to set a menu option to allow aperture ring use. Once set you need to use M mode and stop down metering. On the K-x I think you use the +/- button for stop down metering.

Just follow these steps to use it (excluding the adapter):

The Pentax-M lenses are K-mount and will work fine on your K-x. There are a huge number of manual focus K-mount lenses out there, you have started down a slippery slope. This is one of the reasons to shoot Pentax, they have made it pretty easy to use older manual lenses since they offer focus confirmation with them. That's a nice sharp little lens, almost a pancake. The Pentax-M f1.7 is slightly sharper wide open but after about f2.8 I could not see a difference. You'll enjoy it.

That's good to hear. That was one of the reasons I bought the Kx. I had heard it would be easy to get cheap lenses for it. Good to hear I won't be needing any adapters for the M lenses.
