Sigma 70-200 Help me decide?

I need this lens, for inside auditorium shooting, it is the best range out there in a fast lens that I know of.....unless someone here has other alternatives?

My dilemma.........the older model or the new HSM OS model at almost double the price? I know it is FF, but I am not interested in a FF body now, and may never be after I get the K5. I have the Sigma 17-70 OS HSM and the 10-20 HSM and am impressed with the Sigma HSM speed and the OS is superb in the I do know that these are very good features.

I will use it mostly for inside shooting in large auditoriums....some for late evening Squirrel shooting, and maybe try it for portraits. Is there justification for getting the high dollar model in your minds?
Best Regards& Thanks

I think the new model with OS wouldn't be of much help since Pentax already incorporates shake reduction in their bodies. If you read the specs for the new lens, you will notice that it says you can only use either one - either OS or SR, but not both together. Check it out here:

70-200mm F2.8 EX DG OS HSM |

So, if it were me, I wouldn't shell out the extra money for something which my camera already has and does a very good job at.

My 2 cents.

Hi Rupert,

I have the HSMII and like it very much on my K7. It's still available in Pentax mount here:

Sigma 70-200 pentax

I've never had a lens with OS so don't miss it and SR on the K7 works fine for me. The difference is price is substantial (2X) and OS just wasn't worth it IMHO.

the old model wasn't sharp wide open IMHO. New model may be better but I haven't tried it...

AND, the CAs are virtually eliminated in the new version... Much better lens IQ wise.
