This was one of my first manual lenses that I used on my K100DS. So long as the aperture ring is set to the "A" position you shouldn't have any problems using that lens.

i bought it as soon as I saw it, it was the only one under 3F and under 50usd.

I ended up getting the kx with the prime lens, a hand strap a filter kit, that F/2.0 lens for about 560 after shipping I havent got them yet but am excited.

I dont think ill need a zoom lens for awhile...

I did have one other noooooob question, a lot of stuff says 50, 55mm ect ect Is that based of the type of lens your cam can mount? or the lens Its self?

That is for the lens itself. It designates the focal length of the lens.

There are two different things here: lens focal length and filter size. Your kit lens is not a prime, it is an 18-55 zoom lens. At its longest it is 55mm focal length, 5mm longer than your 50mm prime. As far as I know, both of these lenses take 49mm filters, but many people on PF will tell you not to use a filter anyway. But you should buy at least a lens hood, preferably one that is reversible (for storage) on your 18-55 kit lens.

I see....thanks for clearing that up, so whys it say 55mm on the filter? I always thought the UV filter gave a nice lil touch to color

theres nothing about size...is it universal?

if you in fact have the kit lens, which is not clear to me, then it's focal lenght range is between 18mm and 55mm and it takes 52mm filters. a 55mm filter will not fit without a ring adapter.

a UV filter will not add anything to your photographs

enjoy your new camera

Petal hoods are effective on wide-angle or wide-normal zoom lenses, since they keep the most stray light away while respecting the shape of the censor. But personally, I like the retro look of the metal hoods . . .

As far as your filter goes, I expect you have a 55mm filter. If you really want to use it, you can either i) buy a lens with a 55mm filter thread so you can use it, or ii) buy an adapter or two (e.g. a 49 to 52 and a 52 to 55) to use it with one of your first lenses. If you want to do ii), buy a 55mm lens cap because the OEM one won't fit.

But I dare say most people here would tell you to trust the Pentax colours, buy the hood and leave the filter alone.

That's funny, I thought the 18-55 was 49mm thread, not 52mm. Just goes to show how my attention is all on primes . . .

So the OP has one lens at 49mm filter size and one 52mm. A single step-up adapter would allow use of the filter on the kit lens.
