Going, going, gone on ebay (Was: SMC A 400mm / 2.8 was on ebay, now gone...)

Hey!

You may have noticed there was a monstrous lens on Ebay: for the bodybuilders the 400mm/2.8 SMC. Bidding went well, up to about US$ 2.300,00 and all of a sudden it popped away.

Anyone any idea what happened?

Perhaps the seller sold it elsewhere.

Sold elsewhere? Don't think so. The bidders (including me) got an email, saying that "ebay had removed the item". If the seller would have sold elsewhere, the notice would have been: "the seller has removed this item".

Hmmm, too bad all the same.

Btw; my bid (US$ 4.44) is open for other sellers as well!

If it's any indication, my father in law, my wife and then my ebay accounts were all hacked into in the last week-- so be careful out there ( somebody listed a bunch of cell phones on my father in laws before he could have it corrected)

You will have seen it's been reposted (and finished in the orderly way now). Appearently the seller wanted to charge the buyer with the paypal fees. He would not be the only one who wants to do that. He may be one of the few whose ad was withdrawn for that reason.

He or She, of course. Now a couple of grand richer....

I had a bidding on A 135mm f1.8 few months back. Lucky I did not continue to bid on the dud auction which resulted in null after the payment of the winner bidder was made.

A similar thing happened to me, some time ago, too. However, I got my money back. Seller claimed his ebay-account to have been hijacked. He had no intention to give me a second offer (which had happened), and refunded my paypal-payment.

Very annoying, too: buyers claiming their money back because their parcel had been sent without insurance. "I did not get it! Or, if I did, you cannot prove I did. I want my money back!"

Do you know the buyer who did not get that 135? Else: how do you know it had been paid for?

Cheers,
Syb

Just in: SMC 1:1.8 85mm auction withdrawn, too

They keep on disappearing. This auction (SMC 1:1.8 85mm) finished two days ago on 707 euros... I hope the winner did not yet pay! The more expensive the lenses, the more often they appear to vaporize after bidding is over.
