I absolutely love my M 28mm f3.5. Ridiculously cheap lens (can be had for around $30) and it's so sharp. A great walk around focal length.

Also, any 50mm f1.7. I have the F series and I love it. Great portrait lens imo. M series would be cheaper - I used to have one (well, I borrowed one from a friend) and it was fantastic too.

I would suggest that you should go with MF lenses. They are much cheaper as compared to their AF counterparts. keh.com is a good source that comes to my mind.

I have the M 28 3.5 but it is one of the lenses I'm selling to KEH. The Sigma Mini-Wide is just as good and costs half as much.

If you're really lucky, you might come across a SMCP 50mm f/1.2 which is a stellar lens.

Some more

Several of my favs have been mentioned:
Pentax K 300mm F4.0
Pentax A 30-105 F3.5
Pentax K 50mm F1.2
Here are a few others:
Zenitar 16mm F2.8 Fisheye; nice lens, built like a tank. Not super "fishy" on a crop sensor but a fun lens anyway.

Pentax A 70-210 F4.0 Great zoom, relatively light considering it's old glass. One of the best bokeh for any zoom I own, has a "macro" function (read close focus). Good walking around in the woods lens.

Pentax K 135 F2.5 Sharp Sharp Sharp! Good ergonomics, wonderful focusing. Excellent bokeh and nice and contrasty. If you have this year's calendar, my shot for January was taken with that lens.

NaCl(lots of good old glass out there)H2O

Ok, so here is my wish-list:

1) a wide-angle (14mm to 28mm) sharp prime for landscapes

2) a good macro lens

3) an ultra-fast, sharp, wide-to-medium prime (somewhere in the vicinity of 17 to 70mm)

Any suggestions on particular lenses for any of these categories?

Thanks again for the help!

look into third party F2.8 or faster 24 and 24mm lenses, or if speed is not an issue SMC pentax or SMC Tak 24 and 28 mm F3.5 lenses

lots of options from 50mm to 100mm both in M42 with the takumars or in SMC/SMC-M K mount. don't worry about being MF, that is what you really should have fro macro any way

at a good price, any of the pentax 50mmF1.4 lenses. Stay away from the 50mmF1.2 it is too expensive to call a deal
