This lens has a lot of promise and I have no idea how long I have to wait to buy one. Why doesn't anyone know when it will be released in the US. Pentax won't say and none of the stores know. What the F?

Not need, want. Because I like normal lenses, they're each different and I don't like selling. I'd probably sell the FA 35 and both 28mm's if Pentax would release a DA 28mm f2 or 30mm 1.4.

Thank you so much Frank for taking the time to do this. I'm sure everyone here appreciate that a lot, reputation point added! (Now Pentax need to send you some free lenses to review become you my friend, might have sold quite a few DAL 35mm !).

I think f2.4 will be sufficient.

Thanks Frank for the review, I'm following your threads ever since you reviewed the KR, K5 and now this lens. Nice work!!! Just today I actually placed an order on this lens from Adorama, even though it is not available yet (Website says available Oct, 2010, haaaa Oct is almost over) What's funny though is while reading this thread, I got a call from Adorama confirming if I indeed placed an order and I said yes and I ask when it will be available, he can only say "very soon".

I'm also wondering if a silver DA (L) 35 2.4 would look nice on a black K-X or any Pentax body for that matter?

Also Frank, would you be able to tell me how much you paid for the lens in Singapore (in USD please) or you bought it as a kit w/ the K5? do they have it in Silver? if so what shop/location you bought it? Reason I ask is that I have a friend that is swinging by Singapore in November. So if the price is right and in Silver color, I'll probably cancel my order and just ask my friend.

This is an excellent overview of what looks to be a good to very good quality lens. A nice deal for the money, for those who do not want to splash out for the DA35 Limited Macro.

Every Pentax user should carry the DA 35mm f/2.4 in their bag. The angle of view is very versatile.
Well, no. I owned the DA35 Limited but got rid of it precisely because I can live without the 35mm FOV. It's similar to 50mm from film days and I never cared for that either. I much prefer normal (28mm) or even something slightly more telephoto (43mm).

Four? I think I have ten! Of course normal on APS-C is 28mm and I do have a certain association with Vivitar to maintain!

Do you by chance have an F 28mm/2.8?

Congrats on the new lens, I'm sure you'd love it Sorry we only got black one here, and it's sold out already as far as I know.

I got it together w/ a Kr. Currently this kit selling for around 1000sgd in shops. If your friend comes to Singapore and need help finding Pentax stuff, just let him contact me, or any of us Pentax users here in Singapore, I'm sure we can help your friend out to get the best price in a very welknown shop

Adding a fast normal to the kit lens would be a very good first prime for the beginning photographer, I think.
Think that's the idea.
In Japan, it's coupled with the K-r and even featured in the K-r brochure.

Good for Pentax that it's also attracting a lot more attention.

Thanks for taking the time to post the results, frank!

All that needs to be decided is which colour to buy...a white one, perhaps...

B&H now sells it with the K-r as a kit for $929 (which makes it $130 for the DAL 35/2.4) Not bad at all

No, I have a Pentax A 28/2.8, the famous Vivitar Series 1 28/1.9, a Kiron 28/2 and about six Vivitar 28mm variants, in f/2 and f/2.8. Plus a couple off-brand lenses in a drawer somewhere.

Awesome review, Frank!

I had a feeling the DA35/2.4 would be good, but didn't realize it would be *this* good.

I agree with the others in that this is a no-brainer for those who do not already have an AF prime in this focal length!
