decent price for M42 Vivitar 200mm f3.5?

I am looking for a M42 vivitar 200mm F3.5 lens from ebay. I am not sure how much should I pay for it. I was wondering what would be a good price for the lens.
Thanks a lot.

I paid $23 on eBay for mine (M42 Ribbed focus Komine version) about a year and a half ago in Ex+ condition with case and original caps. I would think that $40 would be top dollar depending on mount maker and condition. Here is a photo of my lens mounted to my Ricoh Singlex TLS...

I paid $100 for a 200mm F3.5 takumar preset, Well worth it, I would not pay any more for a third party lens than $50.

After all if you want 200mmF3.5 you can get for about $100 a multicoated Vivitar Series 1 70-210F3.5 (version 1) which is a superb lens too.

I'd say ~ $35 if its in good shape. My Kino made version has 6 iris blades and auto diaphragm.

Third-party prejudice notwithstanding, my copy of that lens is noticeably better for long distance telephoto work than my Super Tak 200/4. It's as though the Pentax was optimized for portraiture and the Vivitar/Komine for tele use.

I think Soldbear's $50 point is fair and, having the experience of this one, I wouldn't feel bad paying that much to replace mine if I needed to.

It's sharp, light and a stop faster than the economy 70-300 zooms for a third the cost too.

Just out of interest, is this this Vivitar Series 1 version? I think the price for that piece would be higher.

Did Vivitar make a Series 1 200/3.5 in M42? There was a 200/3.0 that might have been available in that mount.

STEVE

I think Vivitar made either an F3.3 or F3 series one lens,

I think there is a 300F3.5 in the market place now for about $80

There is a posting of Vivitar 200 3.5 with M42 mount on ebay. So I guess they did make it sometime.

Just to muddy the waters, you might like to consider the Chinon 200/3.5. I think it's just as good as my Viv (Komine) 200/3.5, and it may well be even cheaper.

I have a chunky M42 Vivitar 200/3.5 Tele #72293 in front of me right now. So I guess they did make it sometime.

Admittedly, it's an M42 T-mount. It's an interesting old lens, made by Komine(?) with 18 (!!) iris blades, giving Xmas-tree-ornament bokeh. And it only weighs 640g vs the 880g of my M42 Series 1 Version 1 70-210/3.5, which only has 6 iris blades. The 200/3.5 Tele isn't my sharpest 200, but it survived my resolution and fringing weeding-out tests. It cost me US$53 including shipping a couple years ago.

Hmm, now that I think about it, I think I'll look for a PK T-mount for this one. So it will soon be The Viv 200/3.5 Formerly Known As M42. Whatever.

With all this Vivitar talk, I think I'll clean up my 135 preset today and stick it in a holster pack to start playing with as an alternate.

Hi Ira,
How does Vivitar 135 2.8 perform compared to Tak 135 3.5?
Also I am planning to get the Vivitar 28mm 2.8? How is it? Is it worth going for a 28mm or 24mm? Thanks
