Tamron 28-80mm

I just acquired one of these used this past weekend as something to have with me that's a bit longer than the DA 18-55mm II (K20D kit) lens that I'm used to carrying around with me.

I like that it's longer and so far it feels great to use! I haven't had time to do any real comparisons (midterms coming up at school).

I figured at about the price of two large pizzas I couldn't go wrong, and it's in excellent shape. It was covered in dust and grime but cleaned right up!

I know it's a subjective question to ask, but would you consider this to be an upgrade from the kit?

if teh f number is around 2.8 or lower then , I would say yes. Because the kit lens range is 3.5 to 5.6 . Two large pizzas value translates to 50$ ? you can't got wrong on that kind of price. good luck

It was this exact lens; Tamron AF 28-80mm F/3.5-5.6 Aspherical

I might've answered my own question after checking out the lens database... the SMC Pentax-DA 18-55mm F3.5-5.6 AL II has an average rating of 8.2 while the Tamron AF 28-80mm F/3.5-5.6 Aspherical rates at a 6.5

And brando, I don't know where you're buying your pizzas, but around here a large is $13~$15 each! I figured this lens, even though the f numbers are the same, the focal range is longer, justifying the $29 price tag.
