But I already have so many macros:
DA35mm, A50mm, Macro-Takumar 50mm (1:1), Leica 60mm, FA100mm, Leica 100mm 2.8 APO, 645A 120mm, 645FA 120mm, Sigma 180mm

I have DA40mm, FA43mm, A 50/1.2, Super Tak 50/1.4, M 50/1.7, Macro Tak 50/4, M 50/4, and FA 50/2.8 macro. Not to mention a Mamiya 58/1.7 which might be the best of them.
You need:
- SMC Tak 50mm
- Pentax-K 50mm 1.4
- Voitglaender 58mm 1.4
- DA*55
- smc Tak 55mm 1.8

I think you need to look into going beyond 1X. Try the 645 A* or FA* 300/4 and corresponding 75/2.8 reversed in front. Will give you 4X of crisp, nice rendering. For 2X, just replace the 300 with the 645FA* 150/2.8. The 645A 120mm is not so good for this.

I once made a personal "lens roadmap". It's online here (offsite link). Since then I've also picked up a DFA 100 macro WR. Not at all sure what to pick up next...

Fortunately I am not one of them, I have the vivitar 85 F1.4 and a super-tak 85F1.9 that's good enough for me.

Problem is, I forget the FA77 more often than not (though I would immediately notice it missing). Until this morning I had the Vivitar 85 f1.4 but it was sacrificed to help pay for the FA*85. The Vivitar is a great lens and I would Readily recommend it to anyone wanting a fast, budget minded, 85mm. At one time, I had a Helios 85 f1.5 but I couldn't get use to the weight or dealing with a preset lens. Never had any of the Takumar 85's though.

I don't understand why you had an issue with a preset, I like them more than regular M42 lenses. I have 3 at presnet, A takumar 200F3.5, a Tele-lentar 135F2.8 and a Vernon-Edonar 105F2.8, they have 18, 15 and 14 blades respectively. What I like the most with all of these is the separation of foreground abd background, which I find is better at any F number to later auto aperture lenses.

I think it has to do , as I said earlier with placement of the aperture in a different spot in the lens, closer to the front element.

the only issue I have with some presets is that the stop down ring is soo stiff and can lead to an inintentional shift in focus if you are not careful. My Tak and tele lentar are nice and easy, but the vernon edonar is a little stiff IMO

I've got digital lenses (I also have a number of film lenses) and all Pentax :
  • 18-55
  • 16-45
  • 12-24
  • 50 Normal F 1.4
  • 50 Macro F 2.8
  • 55-300

What I want is something that doesn't exist...a new Pentax 400 mm and / or 500 mm, F 4 or F 5.6 . I am looking for primarily an outdoors...daytime... lens....F 5.6 is fine with me.

My 55-300mm is fine....but I want longer then 300mm....and I don't want to get a TC 1.4 and a 300mm....also I want new.

I've checked out the Sigma 100-400 and 150-500 mm....but I prefer to buy Pentax as I've always had good luck with them.

Pentax ...are you listening ?

Very simple. I kept forgetting to stop it down at photo time so all of my pictures with it (almost all anyway) were taken at f1.5. That's great if it's intended but I didn't. Didn't care to get use to it, so I sold it. The only time I give it a second thought is when a thread like this one comes up. I had other functional issues with it as well but that was the big one.

Well, you can see my entire DSLR kit in my signature. I would eventually like to get a couple more lenses at the long end... such as an f/2.8 zoom that goes out to at least 200mm and perhaps something in the 150-400/500mm range (obviously not as fast).

I just wish Pentax made new lenses like this for APS-C. In a perfect world, Pentax would make a 135-300mm f/2.8 zoom (I might settle for f/4) and a 150/200-500mm f/3.5-5.6. But I think I might begin collecting DA Limited primes first.

Lesmore... I suspect we may be forced to buy Sigmas before we'll see the long-end lenses we want from Pentax. But one can always hope, right?

How many lenses? Well, use the FL/N rule, where FL is the focal length of a class of lenses, and N is an arbitrary divider. For instance, if N=2, then I'm right on target with 25 Nifty Fifty's, over-the-top with 16 Terrible Twenties, and way under target with only 7 each Thrifty Thirties and Wondrous One-Thirties.

Back in my wasted youth, I sometimes took day labor unloading building materials from boxcars in San Francisco. Manually. (Me: head that's weak, back that's strong.) Just across the street was a materials depot of Kaiser Permanente Gravel and Cement. We constantly saw their slogan: FIND A NEED AND FILL IT. We paraphrased that for the concrete business: FIND A HOLE AND FILL IT. That same slogan applies to LBA. Got a hole in your kit? FILL IT!!

Ah, but sometimes slow glass is wonderful! For some quite different examples: the Tele-Takumar 200/5.6, and the Meyer Primagon 35/4.5 and Helioplan 40/4.5, and even the Sakar 500/8 mirror. All sharp and cheap and slow. And how many user reviews rate the 28/3.5 and 35/3.5 as better than the f/2 and f/2.8 versions?

Mmmhhh, I can try this, but I don't need to buy a lens for the 300 + 75 setup.
I already have the 645FA*300 + 645FA75mm.

Looks like to me, you sir need some primes

The FA 77 is a no brainer
Than a K/A 50mm F/1.2 for the sheer speed? (the fastest lens you own is only F/2.8??? )
Along with this, maybe a macro lens???

I own:
Pentax DA 55-300mm
Pentax M 28mm F/3.5
Pentax M 50mm F/2
Pentax M 50mm F/1.7
Pentax K 50mm F/1.2
Pentax FA 50mm F/1.4
Pentax M 85mm F/2
Sigma 105mm macro
Pentax F 135mm F/2.8

I have a couple others not worth mentioning also So what do I need? (not a fan of wide angled shooting)

I tried one out...the 120-400 (Sigma) and it seemed ok....although some like it....some don't...in contrast pretty well all like the DA 300MM....I do hope that Pentax brings out something like a 400 or 500 prime...F 5.6 would be ok for me...as you say...we live in hope.

I was hoping that a 400 or a 500 would come out during Photokina....but the K-5 did come out and it appears to be a fine camera.

I agree. That's why I'm interested in the DA Limiteds. Trying to decide if I want to start with the new DA 35 f/2.4... the DA Limited 35 f/2.8 macro. I could also go for the Sigma 28 f/1.8 macro or the Sigma 30 f/1.4. The FA 50 f/1.4 is also a possibility... but it would be nice if they digitized this as well.

Hmmm... it's clear you're a prime fan and most of your collection is clustered in the normal-long range. Maybe a zoom or two would help. Think you'd have use for a DA 12-24? Or how about a Sigma 70-200 f/2.8?
