Lets play a game - How many lenses and what should I buy next?

How many lenses? Just list em. For this game, you also need to suggest what the person above should buy next to round out their collection. See if we can't get some proper LBA going.

1. DA Kit II
2. A 28 2.8
3. A 50 1.7
4. K 55 1.8
5. Tak-Bayonet 80-200 4.5

A rather frugal set up

I don't see what more you need. YOu have basically every focal length available from 18mm all the way to 200mm.

Unless you need more length at the long end, or more width at the wide end, what more do you need? May be nice to have an AF 80-200, I've been eyeing the Tamron 70-200 for a while.

Good input! Now list your lenses and someone can recommend you a lens

OK, assuming this is true, I fall a little short. (maybe I should say long)

My M42 kit has 24, 28, 35, 50, 58, 85, 105, 135, 200

BUT
My K/KA mount kit has, 8, 24, 28, 50, 85, 105, 135, 300, 400 (i use a vivitar Series 1 70-210F3.5 Version 1 for 200mm)

and
My AF zoom kit covers the range 10-200mm inclusive, and reaches 280 and 400mm with teleconverters.

SO, by your statement, I need something in the teens for both the K and M42 kits, plus a 200mm for my K mount, plus a K mount 35mm?

Oh boy! I'd say you don't really need anything! That is quite the collection! Maybe the DAL 35mm would be a nice addition - it looks to be very good for the money and full frame compatible..!

thanks, but that's why it is called LBA in the first place isn't it?

did you spell this right, shouldn't it be a nice addiction

but it's AF not MF.

As a note, I started out on the venture with a set of rules.

never buy anything slower than what I already had as primes. My base kit has always been my AF zooms, and for that I have the Sigma 10-20 F4-5.6 EX DC an FAJ18-35F4-5.6, a tamron XR Di 28-75 F2.8 and a sigma 70-200 F2.8 EX (Non DG Non macro).

That set of rules worked well. My kit was all K/KA mounts at the time, but I ventured into M42 land with an SMC-Tak 35mmF2. It filled a space. Then I found a 28mmF2.5 for $9 in screw mount, and the helios 58mmF2 for $13. So far I was good, always faster than my other lenses.

Where I fell off the wagon, so to speak, was getting my 85mmF1.9 Super tak. That made for the 4th M42 lens, (I already had the Vivitar branded Samyang 85mmF1.4 in KA mount) and I decided that I would aquire a full M42 kit. It took 2 years to fill in the M42 holes to what I have now, and I take either the M42 kit or my K lenses when I want to go out and play.

Both kits are good, the K mounts are a little faster, as I have F2 for 24 and 28mm as opposed to F2.5, and my 135 is F2.5 as opposed to F2.8, but for some situations, I like the M42's better, especially when it comes to isolatio of foreground and background, I find the aperture placement on my 3 presets (105, 135 and 200) generates a better separation of subject and background than later lens designs.

just remember the golden rule of LBA: The perfect number of lenses one needs to own can be expressed mathmatically as: N+1, where N = the number of lenses you currently own

My current own lens is shown in my signauture.
Since I dont shoot wide life a lot, 15,21,31,43,77 is enough for me.
So my further LBA or CBA will focus on my film gear.
I just bought a Konica Hexar AF, and am considering buying a contax T2 because of its compact. Long term, XPAN is my dream camera.

Jeff, you have a massive whole in your prime lineup between 15 and 28. I suggest a FA20 f2.8 or a DA21 f3.2 and a K24 f2.8 + you need a FA 77 to complete the 3 amigos for low profile portraits, never mind that big hunk of glass called the 85! Oh and there is another hole between 55 and the proposed 77, how about one of the final Voightlander 58s?

i'm still a newbie so I have loads to get yet!
Primes:
Super Takumars 28 f3.5, 35 f3.5, 85 f1.9
Pentax SMC K 55 f1.8
Pentax SMC FA 50 f1.4
Vivitar 28 f2.8 CF (Komine)
FA Limiteds 43 f1.9, 77 f1.8
Zooms:
DA 16-45 f4.0
DA 55-300

It seems the mind-controlling DA 15 is the next you should get. And a S-Tak set without a normal 50/1.4 or 55/1.8 is a strange sight.

Taks: S-Tak 35/3.5, S-Tak 55/1.8, SMC 55/1.8, Tak 135/3.5, S-M-C Tak 135/3.5, Tak 200/3.5, S-Tak 200/4, Tak 200/3.5

SMC K 55/1.8

M's: 35/2, 50/1.7, 135/3.5

FA 77

DAL: 18-55, 50-200

Tammy 28-80/2.8

Looking for a mini-sized 35 or a preset normal.

I completely forgot all about the FA77 which does occupy a spot in my bag. I also forgot about the Voightlander 180f4 which is sitting right next to my computer .. No way I'm going to forget about that big hunk of gorgeousness called the 85, I just got it yesterday (probably why I forgot about the 77).

I think I should forget about buying any more lenses at this point. Forgetting two of my nicest primes is unforgivable..

there are people who would have you shot for forgetting an FA77

Fortunately I am not one of them, I have the vivitar 85 F1.4 and a super-tak 85F1.9 that's good enough for me.

No Bokina, feverbeaver... that's worth looking into... or the Vivitar Series I 90/2.5, which is supposed to be the same.

How about another 50mm for me?

I have DA40mm, FA43mm, A 50/1.2, Super Tak 50/1.4, M 50/1.7, Macro Tak 50/4, M 50/4, and FA 50/2.8 macro. Not to mention a Mamiya 58/1.7 which might be the best of them.
