50-135 sdm

Just ordered a K5 and the 50-135 and a 55 1.4
My ?concerns the 50-135
I was given a link to a flkr group with samples
Most didn't look to good especially wide open at 135
I'm coming from a sharp canon 70-200 2.8 and am concerned the IQ is not going to be as good
Is this lens supposed to be sharp wide open at all FLs?
Any good samples out there?
Thanks
Gene

I wouldn't worry

Of all the lenses I own, I can ALWAYS count on the DA*50-135 to deliver sharp, consistent results. Even wide open the IQ is great. It's a very useful focal length as well. AF might not be as fast as the Canon you're referring to, (well now with the K5 we may be surprised, who knows?), but I think the size of the 50-135 is a lot handier. I've gotten acceptable results at 1/30 and sometimes even 1/15 second handheld. Just a great lens. When I travel it's always included, usually along with the DA12-24; makes for a very nice two-lens combo handling the majority of my needs. I think you'll be happy with your choice.

I own both the 50-135 and the 16-50. Both are fantastic lenses and even though I use the 16-50 the most, I can always count on the 50-135 coming through with sharp images in family events and things like graduations or indoor sports. If you are wanting F2.8 and this focal length range, I cannot think of another zoom for Pentax that is sharper.
