Tamron AF 18-250mm F/3.5-6.3 Di-II lens questions

Hi, I have just bought a K-x and figured that I need a Tamron AF 18-250mm F/3.5-6.3 Di-II.

I am confused with the different mounts. Can I buy Tamron AF 18-250mm F/3.5-6.3 Di-II for Nikon or Cannon?
By the way I have a Tamron p-k mount.

Please see the attached photos:

The adapter you show has no provision for autofocus (AF) or camera-lens linkage, i.e. no contacts. Pentax, Canon and Nikon AF mounts are all quite different and are NOT interchangeable. To use on your Kx, you need a Pentax-mount lens.

Generally, NO Canon lenses are usable on Pentax cameras. SOME Nikon lenses can be used, either modified or jammed-on, but without AF. By the way, I have the Pentax version of the 18-250 and it's my most-used lens when traveling with my K20D.

You can still get this lens in Canon or Nikon mount as new (279 USD)
Tamron 18-250mm f/3.5-6.3 Di-II LD Asph. IF Macro AF018NII-700 -

Tamron AF 18-250mm f/3.5-6.3 Di-II LD AF018C700 - B&H Photo

I guess there is some stock left as plenty of Canonikon users (including my father-in-law) go for the Tam 18-270 with VC instead.

The Pentax K-mount version i havent seen as new for a while.
It comes up in the used marketplace here or on fleabay occasionally selling for more than the new Canon or Nikon mount!! (300 - 350 ish?)

I might be heading off on a tangent here but, what are you thinking of doing? Taking the Kmount flange and then fitting it to a Canon or Nikon version?

I doubt this would work especially with the Nikon version which has a built in lens motor. Even if the flanges do fit you'd have no contacts for aperture reading and theres no aperture ring for manually stopping down.

I guess youd end up with a manual focus lens with fixed apaerture that wont focus at infinity because the registration distance of the 3 systems is different.

Most people get the 18-250 because it is a conveinent all around lens. Having it like that doesnt sound too convenient.

Edit: There's one in the marketplace here now. Asking price is 400 (getting rarer and harder to find evidently)

BTW the Pentax DA version is exactly the same, but suits lens correction functions in camera.

The adapter looks like an adaptall adapter. It should come in handy if you ever get an adaptall lens, but it doesn't help with the 18-250.

You already received some very good advice. You must buy a lens with K-mount (ie Pnetax mount).

Note that the Tamron 18-250mm is the sibbling of the Petnax DA18-250mm. Hence you can consider either: they are very close and both are very well respected in their class.

You may find the Tamron/Pentax 18-250mm at the marketplace (in this forum), in second hand respected retailers like www.keh.com and www.adorama.com, ebay and others. Try also your local stores. They may hav still a few. The Tamron/Pentax 18-250mm is discontinued, but the demand is still strong because the length is worth it.

The only other worthwhile alternative would be the newer Sigma 18-250mm OS HSM with K-mount. But it is dearer....

Hope that the comment will help.
