Tell that to the folks over on Ebay. All the BIN prices are well over $500, and someone in the UK is offering 5 at $1,248 apiece. Yikes.

it seems like the have the FA35 running back into production again. with the prices that I'm seeing with the FA35 right now, I guess I have to hold on to my copy.

I have told a couple of them to get off of the crack and sent them a link to a rehab center.

I had that kind of thought about the guy in the U.K. If I wanted to drop four figure money in this FL range, there would be an FA31 with my name on it.

Hi Frank,
Thank you for your analysis.
I have a question which aperture exhibit best resolution and sharpness for this lens.
Really appreciate for your photo.

I managed to snap up the only DA 35 f2.4 AL in stock at Amazon UK a few days ago. I've only had time to run some quick tests, but my impressions so far are quite positive.

I have no experience with either of the other two 35 mm lenses discussed in this thread, but this one does seem to be a step up from the 18-55 kit lens in several regards. In addition to the obvious advantages offered by the extra stop (DoF control, low light shooting), I'd definitely say the 35mm f2.4 focuses faster than the kit lens, both in good and poor light conditions. I have not done proper tests to confirm this impression though.

In terms of sharpness, it also looks much better than the kit lens and well into "prime" territory. It's very sharp wide open, and I'd say almost as sharp as my M 50mm 1.7 (which is outstanding) at f/5.6 and f/8. The only thing I've disliked so far is some occasional, severe chromatic aberration in certain images at f2.4-f2.8, but I don't have the same photos shot*at smaller apertures to compare.

If anyone's interested, I posted some of these shots with 100% crops in this thread:

giving the fact that difference between the 35mm/2.4 and the 40mm limited in my case (due to location) is smth like 100$ - which one would you buy as a everyday lens?

I could make a profit on my FA35/2, but the aperture ring makes it something that it seems no newly released Pentax lens will ever be--useful on my LX/MX. The lack of an aperture ring makes any designation of "D FA" dubious in my book. Pentax apparently disagrees, as I was very disappointed that the D FA 100 Macro WR won't play on my classic film bodies.
