DA 35mm/2.4 should be called as DFA 35/2.4? - Full Frame Film Results (many photos)

As promised in my other threads, I put this new lens on a film camera (MZ-5n), took a few random shots to see if the lens can cover FF image circle.

Just got the results back (developed and scanned at the same shop I always do my film). Well, I can't see any vignetting or dark corners on any of the photos taken by this combo, wide open or stop down, closeups or far away subjects. I can't even see any sign of optical degradation at all on edges or corners. I guess Pentax should've called it a DFA 35/2.4

Here are some quick testing photos I took w/ MZ-5n + DAL35/2.4 on Fujifilm Reala 100:

This following one was taken at wide open aperture, a bit out of focus (hard to focus w/o liveview at this low angle), but you can see there isn't any vignetting even for closeups like this:

A slightly bigger photo to show the edges:

DAL means "-"
DFA means "+"
"-" and "+" equals "0"
so, still "DA"

Thanks Frank. The performance is even better than the DA 40mm Limited on film.

Frank, thanks for this, but why does black appear to be purpleish... also is there any purple fringing (a problem I have with my FA 50 1.4 outdoors).

I've still not seen anything that tells me not to buy this lens.

Keep up the good work frank.

it's the Reala film. I've been getting this kind of pinkish and purple color results for the past a few rolls, all developed and scanned in the same shop.

Next time I'm gonna change shop for the development ...

I haven't had any problems with the FA purple fringing outdoors. Sometimes I use a hood and sometimes not.

If not for the plastic mount, it looks like it should indeed have been a DFA!

Btw, frank- you should add your remarks to this entry: SMC Pentax-DA L 35mm F2.4 AL Lens Reviews - Pentax Lens Review Database

Thanks for posting these. To my eyes though at least half seem to have some vignetting (3 out of the first 3 for example, and the dragon fly pic ). Not sure if that amount is normal anyway though for an FA lens on 35mm.

It's definitely a lot less than some lenses (lookin' at you, 24-70/2.8G) on my D700...

Frank,

How'd you control the aperture on the MZ-5N?

Am 90% certain to get this lens on my next trip to Singapore. How much does it retail over there? And what colors are available? I want a silver one to match my MZ-5N.

Cheers
