Asap help please!

I found a guy willing to trade me a Sigma 18-200mm f3.5 lens for my Pentax SMC F Zoom 28-80mm 1:3.5-4.5 plus $180.

But he wants an answer on the spot, it's streching my budget to the far limits but it seems like a lens that can "do it all"

Hmm ... I would pass. The Tamron in this focal range would seem like a better choice and should cost about the same.

The Sigma 18-200mm is an older lens. Its IQ is below the Tamron/Pentax 18-250mm.

There was a newer Sigma 18-200mm OS HSM, but I do not think that it was sold with K-mount, and I doubt that it is the one your mentioned..

In this forum, the lens review rates your F 28-80mm at 6.3, and the Sigma 18-200mm at 6.0. Based upon these ratings, I am not sure that the swap is worth, or is it ???

Food for thought.

Try and make your own mind up as much as possible?
I would suggest having more of a look in the lens review database for those other sigma lenses too.

Exactly nothing. None of these lenses is really good. You are likely to buy it and soon enough you would put it aside. Impulse buys are often unwise.

Jumping from one low quality lens to another for $180? I don't think so. Save hard, buy less but buy better.

There will always be cheap lenses for sale, so I would not rush into this purchase.

Just for reference, BH has the Tamron 18-200mm zoom for 289. After a mail in $100 rebate it would come to $189 USD for a new lens with a warranty. However, these super-zooms are always a bit of a compromise with a couple of exceptions such as the Tammy and Pentax 28-250.

Blue, you likely meant "Tammy and Pentax 18-250" mm.
