Early Super Tak worth $145?

I was wondering if that early model of Super Takumar 50mm f1.4 is worth $145. The one with 8 blades and if it is equal to better in terms of sharpness and image quality of the later Super Taks, S-M-Cs, and SMCs.

Thank you.

I'm sure this isn't the answer your looking for, but it's worth it if your willing to pay that.

Its unclear which Super Tak you are talking about. Do you mean 8-elements? Regardless, I think $145 is on the high end unless it is near mint with original caps, case and matching hood.

Edit: As far as the IQ goes for the early (8-element) Super Tak 50/1.4, late Super Tak, S-M-C Tak or SMC tak, you will get 9 different answers if 10 people respond.

My 8 element super tak has only 6 aperture blades, but I still suspect that is what you mean. I recently paid about $80 for one, and I am sure one exists for sale cheaper than that. With that said, depending on where it is coming from and what access you have to lenses, as well as what condition it is in - it isn't impossible to imagine that lens being worth that to someone. It would be hard to resell for that price though.

I believe condition has EVERYTHING to do with this discussion.
If you look at any Takumar lens, doesn't have to be this 1.4, the same thing applies for any Takumar.
There are lens in varying condition....the well used ones normally go for a lower price....and sometimes they don't even sell at all.
BUT, let that same lens appear in MINT condition, with all original caps, hood, case etc, it will be MUCH dearer, but.....in 99% of cases, it will sell.
I'm aware of this, because the later are the type of lens I'm interested in.......and I'm not saying I'm being sensible in my attitude either....the guys who just go out & buy an average well used lens & use it regularly, are much more sensible than me, I'm sure!!!
Nevertheless, all I'm saying is that price, for these very desirable lens, varies greatly according to condition.
Cheers, Pickles.

There are 50mm Taks with 8 blades, just not the Super. The Super-Multi-Coated and SMC had 8 blades.

Super Taks were usually sold from $40-$100. but not over. somehow sellers found a way to bump up the price than normally. this could be due to increasing demand.

for me, it doesn't matter if you get the old Super Taks or newer SMC Taks. both lenses are great and personally are better than their K-mount counterparts.

Thanks guys. The prices are going gagas for these taks on ebay. This is my first prime and 50mm lens I want to get. I have t2i and I don't feel comfortable with a the EF 50mm 1.8 MkII and I have no bones for the USM 50mm 1.4.

Also I love manual focus. I barely use AF (just to test out).

Is $100 for S-M-C tak 50mm f/1.4 in excellent condition a good deal?

Here in New York/Craigslist the prices are $120 for super taks and higher or later and I don't want to bust my dinero (saving for mum's birthday).
