Hey guys. I recently picked up two screwmount lenses. Now, I have the adapter I need to throw it on my K series body, but I'm worried about this little pin thing thats sticking out. I've heard freaky stories about old lenses getting stuck in bodies because of some pin and I'm not sure which one it is. So, I've enclosed a photo and I'm hoping someone can let me know if I should be worried about this little guy or not.

That pin is harmless. The pins that cause trouble are on certain non-Pentax K-mount lenses.

Haha yeah, seeing as my K100d is now stuck as a 35mm camera, I've learned to check before I do.

I agree that this pin is harmless. In fact, I've just recently tried a Soligor 90-230mm F4.5 lens (which looks very much like the lens in your photo) on my K10D with no problems whatsoever. Lenses from that era were very solid indeed. It makes my DA*200 feel light by comparison.

Ah yeah, the lens is a 75-260mm f/4.5. I'm actually curious as to how it looks on a digital. Got any sample shots you could PM me?

Specifically, some (not all) lenses made to work on Ricoh P series cameras. This would include Rikenon P and lenses with K/R, PK/R, PKA/R, KA/R, etc. on the base or side. The "Ricoh Pin" is a pin or ball fitting that can lodge in the autofocus coupler on the mount. With the pin, the lens may be extremely difficult to remove. With the ball type the issue is much less severe.

Ricoh lenses other than the Rikenon P are quite safe on your camera and are often an excellent value.

As for the pin on your lens...It actuates the iris diaphragm when the lens is attached to a M42 screw mount camera.
