To Da40..or not to Da40...tiss the question!

Well as the title states I'm tossing and turning on the thoughts of purchasing a Pentax Da40 limited lens, seeing as i have chosen to forgo the marginal upgrade from the k7 to the k5 in choice of sharp and shiny new glass...

Currently i have been scouring the ebay, pentax forums and ocau forums for the best deals on this nimble piece of glass. This research has led me to find one locally through ocau from a member in sydney who has possibly settled on $375 with postage to Victoria...although further research has placed me on the American B&H and Adorama websites where the lens is available brand new for 395.36 Australian Dollars.

the question i have to answer myself is near new or brand new for a matter of $20, unless there is a better deal i am unaware of

Im pretty excited about the prospect of this purchase because it is only the second lens i have ever purchase at a new or near new condition after the kit lens, the first being a 'Sigma DG 70-300mm f4-5.6 Macro' lens- which has done me perfectly since day one but is now up for grabs on ebay with no reserve, so as to fund my future da40 purchase.

would be great to hear everyones thoughts and whether there may be a cheaper option as i am a student who needs to save $$$ to survive....seriously not a joke...ahhh living the life!

Cheers all.

Now remember to advertise your auction on the forum's marketplace first, abiding by forum rules, before advertising your lens sale on eBay. Otherwise I'd suggest removing the ad for your eBay sale from your post.

Since you've already decided on the DA 40, go for the cheaper option IMO, unless you want it brand new... If the B&H price did not include postage the decision would be much easier for you.

I think differently. For 20$ I'd get the new lens, used glass is all fine and everything (I have plenty of it) but new is new, and worth 20$ I think.

With just a 20.00 difference, I would go with new. You never know exactly how that used lens was treated.

K-7 to K-5... maginal upgrade? Sez who... you? and who are you?

If you need to save money for survival, why are you S-P-E-N-D-I-N-G money on a DA 40? Don't buy anything until you can afford it!

Wake up...

Survival lens:

A or M 50mm 1.7.
Sure it's not a DA LTD but it's small, capable, and a shoestring budget lens.

or if you need wide:

the new DA 35 2.4, or one of the A or M 35mm 2.8's.

You can compare IQ on a forum all day, but in real life shooting these cheaper lenses allow you to take some impressive shots.
