As i mentioned before, the difference between 35 and 40 is not so important to me.

What is important is good image quality and autofocus. I'm sure either will deliver good image quality, but the bokeh of the 40mm is theoretically better because of the number of aperture blades. I'm also attracted to it's flare resistance and superior contrast... IN THEORY.

By biggest peeve right now is I do not have a lens with more than 6 aperture blades. When I stop down to the f4 area (likely my favorite DOF) out of focus lights begin to look like hexagons. I want something that will smooth that out, and I really doubt that the 35mm will accomplish this.

Now if the DA 35 LTD was not a macro (and therefore not as expensive) I would give it some serious consideration... but I just don't get so close to people. The DA 35mm 2.4 would be an ok addition to my setup, but I'm not sure I would see any real IQ difference between it and my 50's or 28... it would just be about autofocus.

I'm starting to think that 21 - 28 - 40 - 55 would cover 95% of the things I like to shoot. I "could" merge the 28 and 40 into the 35 macro and get the kind of quality I would want, but I'm wondering if that would be a sort of "compromise".

WTF? There are only two places in the US that are listing it for sale, and they are both at $219!

Just trying to see where you were going by pointing out the lens designs.
