My ideal 5 lens set right now:

Sigma 8-16
Pentax-DA 15 Limited
Pentax DA 35 Limited
Pentax A 50 ƒ1.2
Tamron 70-200 f2.8

For traveling light just take the ends off of that to leave the 15, 35, and 50.

However if I were gainfully employed in photojournalistic endeavors I would need a different setup; something like:

Sigma 10-20 ƒ3.5
Pentax DA* 16-50
Pentax FA 50 ƒ1.4
Pentax DA* 60-250
Pentax DFA 100 WR

I think my ideal 5 would be something along these lines... If I didn't have to carry them all!
Sigma 10-20mm
31mm Ltd
DA*55mm
Sigma 70-200mm f2.8 Macro
Sigma "Bigma" 50-500mm

If I had to carry them all in a pack I would probably rather have something like this..\
DA 15 Ltd
FA 31 Ltd
FA 43 Ltd
DA 70 Ltd
DFA 100 WR Macro
Maybe sneak a 2x Teleconverter and a Raynox 250 in the pack with all the space

For general use, parties, traveling, photo journalism where multiple FL is required:

DA* 16-50mm
DA* 50-135mm

For specialist shooting where IQ is demanded:

DA 15mm for landscapes
DA 35mm for flower macro, street scenes
FA 77mm for portrait shots

extra: D FA 100mm WR for serious macro & bokeh production
This is close to what I've got currently:

DA* 16-50
DA* 50-135

DA 21 Limited
DA 35 Limited
DA 70 Limited

Sometimes I wish I had the DA15 instead. Other times I wish I had the 100 WR Macro, or the DA* 60-250 F4. But overall I'm very pleased - I just need to avoid the FA Limited threads!

Ill play
Sigma or Tamron 17-50 f2.8
Sigma 10-20mm f3.5
70mm ltd
31 ltd or Sigma 30mm f1.4
DA 50-135mm

Though I could live with just the 17-50mm

This thread is a perfect example of how your photography preferences change over time. I did this last year and am keeping maybe 1 or 2 of the same lenses.

DA 12-24

DA 10-17

FA 31 ltd

FA 100 2.8 Macro

DA* 60-250

Always the biggest question, what to keep, what to buy and what to sell.

My list, setting it down to 5 lenses:
FA 31mm/f1.8 (not yet in my bag, but I want a Silver to match my K-5 Silver)
FA* 85mm/f1.4 (love this lens and looks great on both my black and Silver K-5's)
Sigma 120-300mm/f2.8 (not yet in my bag but that covers a lot of oppertunity's)
DA* 50-135mm/f2.8 (very versatile tool)
DA 21mm/f3.2 Ltd (to cover my wideangle)

Do I realy have to sell the rest of my gear?

I recently built my collection and went with:

1 Sigma 8-16--This can produce shots unlike any other lens but I don't take so many photos with it.

2 Pentax 43 Ltd--Great lens and I find it is a good balance length wise to use for most staged shots.

3 Pentax DA* 50-135--I would have entertained the Sigma 50-150mm if it was readily available, but I do really like this lens.

4 Pentax 100 WR Macro--Great macro lens.

5 Pentax DA 55-300--Cheaper telephoto option for the time being
.
And if I don't have time to be swapping out lens I go witt he Pentax 18-135 WR as it is very versatile.

For people looking for a wide lens I can't see how the Sigma wouldn't be at the top of the list. It really is a fantastic lens.

DA 35/40 limited (not sure yet, this one is tough)

Allmost there...

Hmmm...

DA 15 Ltd.
FA 31 Ltd.
FA 43 Ltd.
DA 100 Macro WR
...
And the DA*60-250 seems to be the required #5.

OK, here goes:

Zeiss 21mm f2.8 Distagon
Pentax FA limited 31mm 1.8
Pentax FA limited 43mm 1.9
Pentax FA limited 77mm 1.8
Zeiss 100mm f2 Makro Planar

(Well, maybe I would substitute an A50mm f1.2 for something)
