Deimos: The 90 is fantastic, build quality is higher than already good 17-50, comes with a nice carry case, it may even be made of metal, really nice lens, certainly the nicest ive owned from a quality standpoint. The sharpness is really something. Cant wait to find some bugs!! (to shoot)
I love the 90: a little detail and sharpness sacrificed to Neatimage in the name of less grit--just a tiny crop of the original.

I just bought the 17-50. Exposure is a bit quirky. It's spot on without flash, underexposes by 2/3 of a stop at 17 with flash, gradually underexposing up to 1-1.5 stops with flash when at 50mm. Other that than, I like it quite a lot. It's plenty sharp and has good contrast. AF speed is average I would say. In short, it's a compromise lens but well priced. If you can get past the known flash underexposure issues (which are easy to correct with EV comp anyhow), then I think you'd like the lens.

The biggest problem I´ve had with the 17-50 is the exposure, it can be all over the place. With the kit lens it was always 1/3 to 1/2 underexposed, but the Tamron can underexpose by up to 1.5 stops in sunny conditions, can be difficult to get good exposures from.

I think the Tamron 17-50 2.8 is an underrated lens - even by folks who rate it high!

Hello All,
I'm considering this lens to replace my recently shattered (long, sad story) kit lens. As luck would have it, I recently purchased a 50mm 1.7 for low-light, indoor, portrait type photos. How would this lens go against the 50? I'm wondering if this could replace the broken kit AND my 50. Help me save for the K5......... Any thoughts appreciated. Cheers, TDK

Hi all,
I'm considering this lens to replace my recently shattered (long, sad story) kit lens. I also have a recently purchased 50mm 1.7 that I got for indoor, low-light, portrait type photos. How would this lens go compared to the 50. With only an f stop difference in speed, I'm considering this to replace both and save some $$$$ for something else. Thoughts? Cheers,, TDK
