Does Pentax request dealer to return S/N card back?

Hi, I just got a demo lens from an authorized Pentax dealer and the box arrived without s/n card. Icontacted them and they said Pentax request all dealers to return the card back to them, but I always get lenses completed with s/n card.

Do you have any suggestion on this? Thanks.

You were told right:

You register online.

No card to return.

The customer should get the card.

Well, there you go. A definitive answer :-) I can't imagine why a dealer would open a box and return a card...

B&H doesn't supply cards. You register online.

As a matter of fact, you don't even have to register. You're covered under warranty based on your sales receipt.

Hi Ira, I means s/n card included with the lens, not a warranty card.

I bought D-FA 50mm macro from BH and I get everything. Actually I never get a lens without s/n card, even with cheap lens kit.

You're past experience is correct. SN card goes with the lens.....why would Pentax want it? Either they are confused or they lost it and are telling you a story

Pentax.com (I think. It's their main site.)

There's a link to Register Products.

No. This has been covered before.

For whatever reason, you don't get registration cards with new Pentax gear. Forget about the card that just has the number and you don't mail in--that's irrelevant.

What the heck would you need that for anyway? The SN is on the lens.

You're sweating over nothing.

That's what my guess too.

If the dealer simply said Oh we must have been messed up and lost the card, sorry about that, it's completely acceptable for me. In this case, I am going to contact Pentax about what dealer told customer and see what Pentax say.

Yeah, I think the S/N cards that Pentax provide make mention they are not in and of themselves warranty cards - that your receipt and payment are proof of valid warranty.

I spoke with a pentax customer service rep this morning regarding provantage, who I just ordered my K-5 from this morning as well. the Pentax Rep stated if you have a receipt for new product that is purchased in the US, it is covered under US warranty (likely the only exception would be if the included card specifically stated it was an international warranty card).

And even without the card, if you went to register a non-valid U.S. Product, the site would reject the serial # for U.S. Warranty.

It's a way for them to protect themselves against illegal grey market goods.

Update!

Have a chat with Pentax customer service, he said Pentax never request dealer to return S/N card back to Pentax. He also gave me a number to report this case to Mark Davis (which I suppose he is taking care of customer complains).

The customer service guy told me customer don't need S/N card for warranty request, but should have it for reference and they never ask dealer to open the box and return the card.
