Vivitar 58mm and Pentax 1:4/300

I have a Vivitar 58mm and a SMC Pentax 1:4/300, whenever I hook up my K100D to the Pentax lens the Av-- read out would blink and I can't take pictures, for the 58mm I would just twist the dial to the max exposure and it would be fine. But I let my mother borrow my camera and now she messed with it cuz she's used to the old K and I can't get the dial to go back to the orignal setting where the Av-- wouldn't blink.

I was told that these older lenses would work on the new DSLRs, but I can't find the setting to make it work, any help is appreciated. Thanks

do both the lenses have the A setting or what?? K or Screw mount??
in the custom settings menu, do you have ''using aperture ring'' set to ''on''???

in the set up menu the last setting will let you restore default settings. it's the ''settings'' choice.

Sorry for the really late reply, I believe it's a K mount, it has the 3 tabs and it twists in. When I set the setting for using the ring apature it doesn't flash the Av--, but it doesn't take pictures still and wanting to use a bulb. Thanks for helping =)
