kit lens

Does anyone know if the current 18-55 kit lens is the same that came with the K10D or is it the II edition?

The WR version and the DA L version are optically the same as the II version.

ok, I'm buying the k-r and wondering if I should get the lens or just the body ($20 extra). According to the lens review on PF the II has better contrast and AF speeds.

It's a good (not outstanding lens). What would you expect for $20 extra?

If you're happy shooting at f/8 most of the time the 18-55 will be as good as most lenses in getting sharp and well rendered shots. Otherwise you'll need to invest a little more in a decent lens that will perform well at wider apertures.

Check if your lens has the II marking on it.

For 20 bucks I'd buy the kit as something convenient, and possibly even a good throw away lens for situations where things might get hairy and you want to keep your better glass safe.

I already have the lens as it came with my K10D (not II), I just wanted to know if the lens that comes with the k-r is exactly the same as the one I already have.

The one that comes with the KX is the II with a plastic mount and no lens hood (lens hood from 1 should work though!)

Looking at the picture on e.g. Pentax K-r Digital SLR Camera with 18-55mm Zoom Lens 14636 B&H, it's the DA-L one (so plastic mount).

There is not L II, but the L, I'm almost certain, is optically identical to the AL II.

This naming scheme is rather confusing...
