I ran across this a bit ago. Its a story about a couple of guys who wanted to build their own 800mm+ telephoto lens for a Pentax 6x7 body. Its from 2008 and I don't think its been posted here yet. I found it to be a pretty interesting story.

Home made 900mm lens - Leica User Forum

I was undecided if the lens area or the medium format area was most appropriate, so move it as you guys see fit - I took my best guess.

now all we need is a comparison with the Pentax SMC 800mm f/6.7 ED IF. - it didn't look like those lens elements were coated.
