Originally posted by ecce38 My father passed away some time ago but it wasn't until recently that I was looking at his old photography items. He had a Pentax KX camera with 2 lens. I've started shooting pictures with it and have gotten some good results. But I'm wondering about the lenses themselves. If someone could please give me some idea of how good theses lenses are, I'd appreciate it. Also, how well would they work on the new K100D? I just want to know what I've got on my hands here. Thanks. Here are the lenses and what's written on them:
1) SMC Pentax 1.4/50, 1505804 (not sure what these 7 numbers mean)
2) 4.5f/80-200 (around the edge of the lens it reads "JC Penny Multi-Coated
Optics, No.8243750.") Also, the word "Marco" is printed on
the base in a neon green color.
The seven digits is the serial number of the lens. Each lens has a unique serial number. The 50mm lens is a "K" lens, and will work in manual focus mode and Av autoexposure mode (you set the f-stop on the lens, the camera calculates and sets the shutter speed). It has a largest aperture of 1.4 which means that it is quite suitable for low-light photography.
