No lens name in EXIF - DA L 55-300mm

I recently acquired a DA L 55-300mm lens. When using Lightroom 3 and Pentax Photo Browser to view the details of the photos I have taken with the lens, there is no info in the Lens Name field. I have shot photos with both my K20D and my K100DS with the same results. Has anyone else seen this behavior with this lens? Any suggestions? Thanks.

The correct info is in the EXIF data but Lightroom and Pentax Photo Browser haven't been updated to read it correctly.

ExifTool can read the data correctly.

Missing the lens name in the EXIF data is an annoying but common experience. My experience is that most Pentax lenses are recognized but not all in various software. For example the DA 18-55 WR lens hasn't been recognized in LR. Some Tamron lens are and some aren't and my Sigma and Samsung lens aren't either. The Samsung 12-24 lens is the one the puzzles me the most as it is a carbon copy of the Pentax DA 12-24.

Of course if you are using older manual lenses these clearly don't even talk to DSLRs so the only thing you have to go by is the lens length you input on start up.

I'll have to look at the suggested software. I would like to have that information on most of my images.

I find this somewhat annoying as well. Photoshop CS3 sees a Sigma 17-35 as a Tamron 35-90 and has no clue about any of my Pentax zooms other than the 18-55 I. These databases should be updated.

Thanks all. I suspected it was a software issue. You'd think the Pentax branded software would be up to date. I was running version 3.1 and upgraded to 3.61 but it didn't help.

Is there an exif editor where i can name my manual lenses in the image? And change the fnumber to what I actually used? And something that has a GUI, a command line app is just not cutting it.

Which OS? In Mac OS you can use Aperture to edit EXIF data.

Not with any other Pentax lens, but yes with the new DA 15 on the K20D. The 21/40/70 are recognized. I'm going to check it on the K100D, and also in the newer PDCU. In less than a handful of times, I have a FL issue with another non-Pentax lens (forget which at the moment).

OK. Pentax Photo Browser 3.51 does not recognize the 15mm, but PDCU does. Rats. I like making an exif database, but PDCU includes way more columns than the K20D produces....

I'll have to investigate further...
