'Laser calibration' is probably an automated laser + optical check that all components were properly assembled and optical alignment is within design parameters. Individual 'calibration' is too time consuming and expensive in consumer product mass manufacturing.
Just about all companies serial number schema encode product class, date of manufacture and sometimes a unique identifier for traceability purposes. However, newer applications spit out meaningless sequential numbers, regardless of product, date or country or individual factory, that within a PDM system 'contain' traceable individual assembly item data.
