Wrong lens reading - Any way to fix?

Hello!
I recently picked up a used Tokina 28/2.8 in PK-A (and PK-R - with round pin) for my K-x.
Initially it would not fit. After I removed the black inner ring (the one with a partial flange that is longer than the other lenses I have), I am able to fix it.
The lens aperture range is f/2.8 to f/22. But the body is showing the range from f/5.6 to f/32.
Is this normal or something needs to be done? Is it because that I removed the black inner ring? Thanks.

you have a pin open circuit somewhere

check on the mark roberts site to work out which one based upon the pin patterns.

Also beware of the ricoh pin, if installed, if removed it is probably why the aperture is reading incorrectly
