What kind of flash? With the built in flash you're probably going to have to shoot at 1/180 sec and stop the lens way down. If you have an external flash that has auto setting, set your aperture and ISO on the flash and it should be about right (remember to change the Aperture on the flash when you do on the lens). If you have an external flash that you can control the output manually, try half power, one quarter power, etc and see what works.

Built in flash...

I tried going faster than 1/180 pretty much white'd out still.

Try these:
M mode (must be M, NOT Av or any other)
f=22 or 18
Manual ISO @200
Shutter speed @max (1/180)

Should be OK.

With the ISO around 400-800 this worked out pretty well. I think I am on the right path now. Thanks!

Just to point it out, unless you're using an external capable of High Speed Sync (HSS), you cannot go faster than 1/180 with the shutter speed. With HSS, you can go as fast as you see fit.

It's all workable though, you're on track to figuring it out.. Good luck.
