Tamron bought from HK - warranty ok?

Hi,

I'm considering buying a Tamron AF 17-50mm f/2.8 XR Di II on ebay from Hong Kong. I know this lens has a 6 year warranty.

Is Tamron as finicky as Pentax is about non-official importers and distributors? Will I still be able to get warranty on a lens imported from Hong Kong?

Thanks for your help!

My experience with Tamron Australia was more than 1.5 decades ago. Tamron lenses being sold in HK carry 5 years HK warranty. I am uncertain whether the Australian distributor would cover it, but I do know very few Tamron service centres worldwide are equipped to fix optical alignment which is not rare with Tamron lenses. Tamron HK can do it, the Australian one didn't. Should you decide to buy from HK, do factor in the potential cost if the lens needed repair. I would test BF/FF & optical misalignment w/o delay.

Good point about testing straight away. Thanks. I was thinking of getting it now, but i'm probably not getting the K-5 for a few weeks. But now i think i'll wait so they both arrive together.

Is there a difference between BF/FF of a lens versus the camera? I just did a search of the forums and it seems that the BF/FF issues of zoom lenses is that it could be BF at one end of the zoom range and FF on the other. Is this right? Also, could it be BF at the long and short ends, but ok or FF in the middle of the zoom range?

Thanks for you help!

My only Pentax zoom was the DA16-45/4 which BF at the wide end. Whether it was due to the limitation of Pentax AF or something else I didn't know. However, Pentax service centres can compensate BF/FF with individual lenses by storing the data in the camera. I have no idea if they would do their for non-Pentax lenses though.
