Lens Hood for DA 35mm F2.4 AL

Hi,
I am purchasing the DA 35mm F2.4 AL lens and see that it does not come with a lens hood. Would anyone have any suggestions from a lens hood that would be best for this lens? Should I be going for a petal hood or any other type?
Here a some I was looking at....

Iīd go with a rubber collapsible one. I took a while to get a 49mm one (only Pentax makes small lenses these days) but it does the job just fine. Beware of getting one thatīs too long as it will cause vignetting. The first one you posted above looks like one of the old Tak ones, but itīs ridiculously expensive.

Thanks for the replies. Would like a pentax brand hood but yeah they are pretty expensive for what they are. Will look into the amazon links above.

Found this one on 7dayshop.

Would it be similar to what you suggested.

Thanks

Here's what you want. Only slightly more expensive than generic and specifically made for a 50mm fov.

Too long, you need a standard hood (50mm focal length). There are a lot of standard 49mm hoods available, just make sure it contains inner threads for mounting a filter. This looks like a good one: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Hama-Rubber-Lens-Hood-49mm/dp/B00005KHU1 I have a couple of similar generic rubber hoods that I use on my 28mm, 35mm, 50mm and 100mm macro. I only need to carry one hood for all of my 49mm filter diameter primes.

There are a number of options but as has been stated you want one that was intended for 50mm or so film because the DA 35mm f2.4 will play like a 50mm on a 3/4 sensor and if the hood is too long it will intrude into the photo (called vignetting).

I understand wanting name brand materials but hoods are just plastic (and less commonly metal) shields. As long as it has 49mm diameter threads and also front thread to add a filter it should work. The rubber ones are nice because you can leave them on the lens just folded back. There are lots of options around but a hood is great for improving your photos by limiting extraneous light.

Good luck.

Just got one of these in the mail : 49 49mm 3in1 rubber collapsible Lens Hood - eBay (item 270660438312 end time Dec-07-10 06:11:57 PST)

Seems to be of decent quality. Took some 2 weeks though, but given the price and distance I'm not complaining.

Does that one have a front thread for a filter? I hate sites with poor pictures (the description says it does but I was warned about the inexpensive eBay brands sometimes not living up to the promises). Thanks.

Yep, it has the filter thread. Just tried a filter on it to make sure.

It looks it would have to be folded back all the time for a 35mm lens.

A quick try on the Pentax-A 28 revealed no apparent problem with this in the middle position. This is a FF lens, of course ...

Yeah, that's what I mean. It's too long when extended, so it has to be folded back all the time. I'd rather have one that works in the normal position, so I don't have to keep checking that the hood is folded back before I shoot. I have a couple of those 3-position rubber hoods that I never use.

Full frame doesn't enter into it when it's mounted on an APS-C camera.

I use the OEM hood from my M-100/2.8 ( SMC PENTAX 1:2 85mm 1:2.8-4 100mm) on my F-28/2.8 when I'm using it with a DSLR. I tested it on a white wall and there was no vignetting that I could see. I bet it would work great on the DAL 35mm.
