Da 50-200 vs F 70-210

Between these 2 zooms which would you own? I have a Da and it's quite good. Nice and light and offers good IQ and fairly sharp. But has anyone tried/tested the 2 lenses head to head. Is the older F lens sharper? I know it's heavier and not as compact but there's no difference in speed and as a 2 lens kit (with Tamron 28-75 Di) as a walk around I'm wondering which would be better. I can get a near mint version of the F quite cheap and I've always been curious why the F sells for as much as $250 on Ebay for a 10 + year old lens when the DA is retailing new around $200 in N. America.

I haven't done any testing myself, but over at pdml a couple of tests were done when the DA was released and they showed (if I remember correctly) that the F was the better performer. But don't forget that the DA handles better with lower weight, no rotating front element, etc.

At one stage I used to own A70-210/4, F70-210/4-5.6 and DA50-200/4-5.6. From my experience (no scientific tests nor direct comparison but just from looking at the photos taken by each lens), 'A' is the best out of the bunch but also heaviest! 'A' also has a 1/4 macro. F and DA is quite closely matched, each has it strong points. With 'F', the rendering for out of focus area is better (smoother) and the color isn't as bright/saturated as the 'DA' (this can be good or bad depends on the person). 'F' is also the 2nd heaviest. 'DA' is the most portable of all. Sharpness-wise, I can't really tell the difference between it and the 'F'.

I've sold my A70-210 due to its weight. DA is my travel lens and F is the one I use when I go out for photographic day trip.

cheers
Kenny
